All willow outside will need to be treated. We provide our clients with detailed instructions. The traditional treatment is Boiled Linseed Oil and Turpentine (or Turpentine substitute), in a 2 to 1 mix. There are also waterbased treatments available. These can be painted on with a brush or using a hand pump sprayer.
Annual treatment and if possible, two coats on areas which may get more wear, such as the rope top and areas close to the soil are recommended. If you live in an exposed site, you may wish to treat your willow twice a year. As weather, site conditions and nature of the items vary, it is not possible to give an exact timeframe regarding longevity.
Where possible, seats or other moveable items such as obelisks, plant wraps and bottomless baskets should be placed under cover in winter.
